Privacy policy
- Marmareen has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting.
- We do not collect, sell or share personal data.
- Your location, notes, duas, zikr and reading history stay on your device.
- The app connects to the internet only to download translations and play recitations you ask for.
Who we are
Marmareen is a free app for reading and listening to the Quran, prayer times, duas and zikr. "We" means the people who make Marmareen. You can reach us at support@marmareen.com.
Information that stays on your device
Marmareen keeps the following only on your phone, tablet or browser. We cannot see it and it is never sent to us:
- Bookmarks, your last reading position, and the time you spent reading and listening.
- Zikr you create, their schedules and completions, and duas you write.
- Images you choose for a zikr from your photos (Marmareen copies only the picture you pick into its own storage; it does not access the rest of your library).
- Your settings: language, theme, prayer calculation method, alert sounds, and the city you choose.
Deleting the app (or clearing its data, or your browser's site data for the web edition) deletes all of it. See Delete your data.
Location
If you allow it, Marmareen uses your device's location while you are using the app to calculate prayer times, the qibla direction and the distance to the Kaaba, and to check whether you are in the Mataf. These calculations happen on your device. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else. Location is optional: you can search for a city instead (the city list is part of the app and searched offline). Marmareen does not use location in the background.
Notifications
Prayer alerts and zikr reminders are scheduled on your device. There is no notification server and no push token.
Internet connections
Marmareen works offline for the Quran text and prayer times. It connects to the internet only when you ask it to:

Like any web server, these servers receive your IP address and basic request details (time, address requested, browser or app version) so they can respond. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs for a limited time for security and operations. We do not use them to identify or profile anyone, and we do not combine them with other data. quran.foundation handles the requests it receives under its own privacy policy. Recitations you play may be kept on your device for up to 7 days so they play offline, then removed.
All connections use HTTPS.
Cookies and storage on the web
This website and the web edition use no cookies and no analytics. The website remembers your language choice in your browser's local storage. The web edition stores your bookmarks, settings and the Quran text in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) so it works offline; clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location (while in use, optional): prayer times, qibla and the Mataf check, as above.
- Notifications (optional): prayer alerts and zikr reminders.
- Alarms and reminders (Android, optional): so prayer alerts arrive on the minute.
- Background audio: to keep a recitation playing with the screen off, with controls on the lock screen.
- Photos (only when you pick one): through the system photo picker, for a zikr's image.
Children
Marmareen is suitable for all ages. Because we do not collect personal data from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to its processing. Since we do not hold personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to provide or delete; your data is on your device and under your control. If you believe we hold something about you (for example in server logs), email support@marmareen.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If Marmareen's data handling changes, we will update this policy, change the effective date above, and describe significant changes in the app's release notes before they take effect.
